Productivity hacks for architects.

Being productive doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be fast, but how you work strategically. When we were doing the research for our Toxic work culture post, we found out that architects and architecture students are some of the most hard-working when it comes to spending more hours per week on projects.

Knowing this, what can we do to spend our time better and at the same time being productive? These are some hacks that can for sure for sure help you more productive, if these don’t work we’ll give you your money back hahaha 😂 *friday joke*.

Project management

Start outlining your process, how you are going to do each project. After this start creating checklists, this will not only help you stay organized, but it will help you track your work efficiently

Eat the frog

Awww, isn’t it such a cute frog? We wish our nasty tasks could be this cute haha, Mark Twain states that if you eat the frog first thing in the morning, things after that are much easier, so that tedious task you’ve been pushing aside? That is your frog, eat it!

Small batches

This has to do a lot with multitasking, we often think we are all that because we are able to multitask, but this is just draining and most of the time we don’t even save time and tasks are not well done. So, start grouping similar tasks into small batches and work on a batch at a time.

Work less hours

If you take up all of your free and work hours together, of course, you are going to slow down. So, get your schedule together and work fewer hours, less is more. Once your mind gets that you don’t have enough time, it will force you to focus on finishing important tasks first.

Automate Repetitive Tasks

Has it ever happened to you that you are starting a new project and all of the sudden think that you already did that? Well if you have similar projects, save time and create a template. Templates for everything, sending the same email 3 or 4 times a week? Template. Using the same base for your floorplans? Template. Save time!

Take breaks

YOU. ARE. NOT. A . ROBOT. Take breaks, please don’t force your body and brain to work overtime, it’s just going to be useless. If you take breaks, when you come back you’ll be fresh and have more energy, also, taking breaks will avoid procrastination big time because your brain is looking forward to that break, so it won’t desperately ask you for Instagram time haha😫

Keyboard shortcuts

We are shortcuts lovers! The amount of time you can save by knowing all of the shortcuts to the software is just wow. Check out our Instagram page for all of the shortcuts!

Organizing tools

A while back we did a post about apps to help you stay productive. Know the vast variety of tools you have available to help you be productive, stop trying to handle everything by yourself, we are in the digital era.

Two-minute rule

This tip from architects is easy peasy, if a task takes only two minutes, do it now. This will also help you to have productivity satisfaction and it will give you more mental energy to continue.

Cool playlist

Believe it or not, having a cool playlist will help you work with more energy. Obviously, it depends on your music taste, but music is important just to mute the outside world. Check out our Show It Better playlist
